Stunt Rock ist ein 78er Film aus Australien und enthält nichts weiter als Stunts, Heavy Metal und Magie. Definitiv ein Must Watch auf meiner Liste. Snip von IMDB:
Australian stuntman Grant Page goes to Los Angeles to work on a television series. He uses his spare time to lend his expertise to rock band Sorcery, whose act features duels between the King of the Wizards and the Prince of Darkness, with his cousin playing the Prince. Page helps the duo develop pyrotechnic magic tricks for their shows, and also finds himself in a budding romance with a magazine writer as he recounts to her his own exploits as a stuntman and daredevil as well as various stunts by other greats.
Hier der superinteressante TED-Talk von Stuntman Steve Truglia, der ein bisschen über die Geschichte der Stunts erzählt, dann ein wenig über Stunt-Technologie und schließlich bei seinem neuesten Projekt landet, dem Space Jump, mit dem er den 1960 aufgestellten Rekord von Joseph Kittinger (Wikipedia) einstellen will, der damals aus einer Höhe von 31 Kilometern in die Wolken sprang.
Die Filmaufnahmen davon hatten die Boards of Canada in ihrem Video zu „Dayvan Cowboy“ verwursteten, hier das Video, hatte ich hier schonmal irgendwann…
Mein Film des Jahres 2008 war „Man on Wire“, dem ich bei den Filmfreunden völlig zurecht fünf Sterne gab. Darin ging es um Philippe Petit und seine komplett wahnsinnige Aktion, während der er in den Siebzigern ein Drahtseil zwischen den Twin Towers spannte und darauf einen Seiltanz aufführte. Alles geheim, alles illegal, alles ganz fantastisch.
Nachdem der Film international ziemlich erfolgreich war, hagelt es bei ihm Anfragen, nach denen er seine Aktionen doch bitte wiederholen soll. Und er wird! Snip von der New York Times:
The stealth preparations made the walk a compelling subject in the film “Man on Wire,” which won an Oscar for best documentary feature this year. While on stage at the ceremony, Mr. Petit balanced the Oscar statue on his nose; it was unscripted and unannounced.
But Mr. Petit’s next walk will not be a surprise.
Here’s the spoiler: Mr. Petit says he will perform a high-wire walk in the fall in Midtown Manhattan. It will be high, it will be long, and it will be outdoors in a very recognizable location that he does not want revealed quite yet — arrangements are not final.
Mr. Petit’s Oscar success brought him heaps of mainstream recognition for his unparalleled career as an artistic daredevil, but it has also filled his wire-walking calendar.
He says he spent years preparing for the stunt at the World Trade Center, for which he was immediately arrested.
But there is no need for illegal wire walks these days.
The offers are pouring in from officials all over the world, and Mr. Petit says he is obliging and working three hours a day on a practice wire. The walk in Manhattan is to be one in a series across the country, to raise awareness for literacy.

Ich unternehme nun keine langen Erklärungen was Thema war und wie dies behandelt wurde, nur dieses Video ist schon der Hammer.“ Ich habe über diese Animation schonmal gebloggt, das Video ist ein echter Oldie but Goldie. Das Video vom Blacksharp Videoteam hat es auch bis in die Gamer-Edition vom Guiness Buch der Rekorde geschafft. Und wer zuerst „Aaalt“ ruft, verliert.

Die Story über diesen irren Typen, der in den Siebzigern auf einem Drahtseil zwischen den Twin Towers balancierte – selbstverständlich ohne Netz oder irgendeine Sicherung –, habe ich irgenwo am Rande mal mitbekommen. Den Stunt fand ich damals schon extrem faszinierend und jetzt haben sie eine Dokumentation darüber gedreht und bis die mal irgendwann irgendwo im Fernsehen läuft, bemühe ich lieber den Tracker meines Vertrauens.
On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman called Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire suspended between New York’s twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. After an hour dancing on the wire, with no safety net or harness, he was arrested and thrown into an underground prison. Until that moment no one but Petit and his team of accomplices, who had spent months planning their illegal ‘coup’ (as they referred to it amongst themselves) knew anything about it.
Born out of a dream and an idea, Petit and his team of accomplices spent eight months planning the execution of their ‘coup’ in the most intricate detail. Like a team of professional bank robbers planning their most ambitious heist, the tasks they faced seemed virtually insurmountable: they would have to find a way to bypass the WTC’s security; to smuggle the wire and rigging equipment into the towers; to suspend the wire between the two towers; to secure the wire at the correct tension to withstand the winds and the swaying of the buildings; to rig it secretly by night – all without being caught. Not to mention the walk itself…
