Nicht vom lahmen Vorschaubild täuschen lassen: Dieses Musikvideo von Rogier van der Zwaag für Nobody Beats The Drums „Grindin’“ ist ziemlich fantastisch. Das ganze sieht zunächst aus wie CGI, ist aber StopMotion und besteht aus 4085 Fotos von angemalten Holzklötzchen, die sowas wie einen trippy 3D-Equilizer darstellen. Hier gibt’s noch ein nettes Making Of zum Clip.

Schöner Stopmotion-Short mit The National-Soundtrack von Tobias Gundorff Boesen als Abschlussarbeit für The Animation Workshop, gefilmt in den Wäldern von Viborg, Denmark.
Noch so ein Stopmotion-Kurzfilm, der mir grade unterkam, ist „Papierkrieg“ von Makaio Tisu, sein Bewerbungsfilm für die Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Da verstehe ich aber das Ende nicht so richtig und ich denke mal, das ist kein echtes Stopmotion, sondern CGI, aber wurscht:

Sehr schönes Stop Motion-Video von Rob Carter, das die Veränderungen einer Stadt aus der Vogelperspektive in Stop Motion zeigt. Unbedingt die komplette, knapp 10 Minuten lange Version anschauen, die im Jahr 1755 mit ein paar Hütten im Wald anfängt und ganz langsam zur modernen Stadt Charlotte heranwächst, die man in den letzten drei Minuten oben sieht.
Metropolis is a quirky and very abridged narrative history of the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. It uses stop motion video animation to physically manipulate aerial still images of the city (both real and fictional), creating a landscape in constant motion. Starting around 1755 on a Native American trading path, the viewer is presented with the building of the first house in Charlotte.
From there we see the town develop through the historic dismissal of the English, to the prosperity made by the discovery of gold and the subsequent roots of the building of the multitude of churches that the city is famous for. Now the landscape turns white with cotton, and the modern city is ‘born’, with a more detailed re-creation of the economic boom and surprising architectural transformation that has occurred in the past 20 years.

Schöner Stopmotion-Film von LU Sisi, in dem er oder sie alte Kameras zum Leben erweckt.
I composed a piece of music made entirely from sounds that I had recorded from a collection of antique cameras. Constructed using the digital composition software Reason, this piece carried a strong hip hop feel [ed.: Gottseidank nicht] and seemed to connect past with future technologies. To accompany this track I created a video response that captured traditional, analogue techniques yet also had a strong contemporary theme.
This short film is made entirely with stop motion animation, with over six thousand still photos shot and then edited together. The cameras are literally ‘brought to life’ here, while image composition and lighting is as carefully considered in each video frame as they would be for individual photo shots.

Dieses Video hatte ich schon ein paar Tage auf dem Schirm, hab’s mir aber grade erst angesehen: Buch-Papercut-Stopmotion, oder so ähnlich, für das New Zealand Book Council. Tatsächlich ziemlich super, die erste Minute ist ja schon nett, ab dann geht’s aber erst so richtig los.

Schönes Stopmotion-Video für einen Song der 70er-Punkband Johnny 7 von Andy Martin, auf seinem Blog gibt’s noch ein Making Of-Video.
I created an animated handmade poster using a tub of black paint, a tub of white paint, photocopied images of the band, lots of newspaper pages and a flattened cardboard box. The strict rules I imposed on myself also included the use of only natural light and avoiding any fancy computer effects or short cuts. This made me concentrate purely on the stop motion and give the piece a punk spirit an energy that I think suits the song and the band.

Ich denke mal, ich kann sagen, ich habe schon allerhand Stopmotion-Videos in diesem Internetz gesehen. Aber noch keins mit einem animierten Tattoo das dann auch noch eine Oldschool-Fotokamera als Motiv hat. Awesome!
So with the help of Tony Touch, I am getting an awesome Nerd sleeve worked on whenever I go visit Toledo. We decided to roll with an evolution of cameras at first, then more nerdy references above.
Tony got the idea from another artist to do a stop-motion video where it looks like the tattoo does itself. I brought in a single alienbee and softbox, plus my handy new remote, and we got to it.
Hopefully we’ll do this for the entire arm. I’d love to have that kind of record of progress on this :)

Tommi von Quintessenz hat mir grade ihr neuestes Video geschickt, schönes Farben-Stopmotion-Graffiti-Dings, das ich schonmal in den Links hatte, aber wie bereits gesagt: Die liest ja keiner. Ich muss, denke ich, mal ein Best-Of der Linklisten hier machen, ich habe heute auf Delicious die 10.000er-Schallmauer durchbrochen.

In the rubble of the recession and after being laid off from their jobs at a San Francisco based production company, two rambunctious youngsters, Tony Benna, and Adam Avilla, joined forces to try their might at becoming an artistic superpower. Searching for a target for their creative chi, they met with a small local San Francisco cell phone application company called Gravity Mobile. The project that Gravity presented them allowed all the creative freedom that the team desired thus causing a massive creative explosion.
That explosion spawned a notion to animate one of the most unruly mediums known to man: Yarn, which has a similar controllability to boiled spaghetti. With a box of yarn, some black foam core, and a glue gun the two got to work. They rigorously trained the yarn to be more obedient to their wishes and whims. After two cold months in a dark warehouse bedroom, which they transformed into a shooting stage, they still had not mastered the ungovernable medium, but they had learned to embrace its dubious nature. The result of the exploration left Adam and Tony conjoined at the temple and deprived of precious vitamin D.

Hier Hine Mizushimas Stopmotion-Video zu „Why Does the Sun Shine?“ aus der TMBG-DVD „Here Comes Science“, zu dem Song gibt’s eine kleine Story: In den Songtext hat sich nämlich ein Fehler geschlichen. Die Giants singen „The sun is a mass of – incandescent gas – A gigantic nuclear furnace“, was nicht ganz richtig ist und so haben sie später den Song „Why Does the Sun really Shine?“ (hier ein Live-Video) geschrieben, in dem es richtig heisst:

Eigentlich sollte die Headline ja „Insektenstraßenbeleuchtungslangzeitbelichtungsstopmotionvideo“ heissen, das hätte mir aber das Layout zerhauen, denke ich. Jedenfalls ist dieses Stop Motion-Video mit langzeitbelichteten Bildern von Insekten unter einer Straßenbeleuchtung ziemlich grandios. Tolle Idee, fantastische Bilder und dazu noch Insekten, habe ich in der Form noch nie gesehen. Und ich liebe die Flugspiralen der Viecher. Der Soundtrack ist Telefon Tel Avivs „What’s The Use Of Feet If We Haven’t Got Legs“.

Sehr schönes Stopmotion-Video von Space Invader, der ja nicht nur Pixel-Aliens weltweit an Häuser klebt, sondern auch Kunst aus Rubiks Cubes macht (ein Posting darüber war übrigens eins der ersten Postings hier, finde ich aber grade nicht). Hier jetzt seine Zauberwürfel-Versionen der Album-Cover von „Abbey Road“ der Beatles und „London Calling“ von The Clash. Selbstverständlich mit passendem Soundtrack.

Schön stranges Video für We Have Bands „You Came Out“, Stopmotion-Facepaintings habe ich so auch noch nicht gesehen.
The face paint animation film is made up of 4,816 separate stills. Each and every frame was hand-painted, shot, wiped off and redrawn, slightly differently for the next frame in order to create a seamless sequence. This time-consuming process involved the band members lying still for two consecutive days in a studio.
In order to animate the singing bit, lip movement was created by animating a painted mouth on the singer Dede. This involved breaking the lyrics into phonetics and giving each sound a specific mouth shape. To make this as realistic as possible all the mouth shapes were painted on Dedes face individually and then shot. All 4,816 frames of the music video can be found on Flickr.

Michel Gondrys Video zu Dick Annegarns „Soleil du soir“ nutzt Stop Motion, aber mal anders. Die müssen in 24 Stunden maximal 5 Sekunden Film produziert haben, wobei ich mir die Frage stelle, wie lange der komplette Shot gedauert haben muss, der eigentlich nicht viel mehr zeigt, als einen Mann, der eine Kaffeepause macht. Das aber an drölfhundertzweiundzwanzig Tagen.

Heute bin ich irgendwie in Stop Motion-Laune und da es sowieso am meisten Spaß macht, anderen Leuten bei der Arbeit zuzusehen, ohne daran beteiligt zu sein, hier das Stop Motion-Video des Einzugs eines jungen Herrn in seine neue Wohnung in einem Film aus 2800 Einzelbildern, unterlegt mit Brian Ferrys „The Way You Look Tonight“ und wenn ich mir die ganze Arbeit ansehe, dann habe ich ja so gar keine Lust mehr auf den sehr bald anstehenden Umzug. Was hilfts, was muss, das muss. Meh.

Was macht man, wenn man David Huber heisst und bei seinem London-Aufenthalt die Videocam zuhause vergessen hat? Genau: Man knippst 3328 Einzelbilder, fügt diese zu einem wunderbaren Stop-Motion-Video zusammen und legt einen Remix von Daft Punks „Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger“ darunter, voila.

Simon Gesrel und Xavier Ehretsmann drehten dieses „The Thing“-Remake mit Stop-Motion-GI-Joes zu „Driving this road until death sets you free“ der französischen Elektroniker Zombie Zombie, einem Song der hörbar an den Soundtrack des Films angelehnt ist. Das Teil ging schonmal vor ein paar Monaten rum, damals übersah ich allerdings, dass da gegen Ende dann doch nochmal ein paar Monster auftauchen. Huah!

Jon Thomas hat seine Feuershow vom 4. Juli mit Langzeitbelichtungsfotos fotografiert und daraus eine Stop-Motion-Animation mit einem Soundtrack von MGMT gebaut. Burn!
Der Song geht so, das Video ist großartig, auch wenn das Lightwriting-Thema grade etwas überstrapaziert wird. Bei Flickr gibt’s Stills aus dem Clip.
Also, bevor mir das jetzt noch weitere dreihundert Leute als Linktipp schicken, bring ich dieses Video lieber einfach, obwohl ich es schon letzte Woche bei Spreeblick abgefeiert hab. Danke an alle, die das Ding geschickt haben.

Ich will ja nicht (wieder) in Nerdcore’schen Zombiegefilden wildern, aber das Teil musste ich zu Beginn der Arbeitswoche einfach bringen. Zombie Fu ist ein sechs Minuten langer Stop-Motion Film von Jayel Draco und Kyle Varga in dem ein untoter Samurai gegen massenhaft ebenfalls zombiefizierte Gegensacher (inklusive Zombie Bruce Lee) antritt.
