Poulpe Pulps hat eine sehr schöne Sammlung mit ollen Pulp Covern, allesamt mit mal mehr, mal weniger gigantischen Octopi from outer space und sonstwoher.
Die Nevercrew (hier ihr Blog) hat in einem Skatepool in Lugano einen Riesenkraken gemalt. Wenn man da drin jetzt rumskatet, surft man tatsächlich über dem Kopf eines gigantischen Oktopusses. Aber ich erzähle jetzt mal, was Warren Ellis mal verlinkt hatte, was ich bei ihm leider nicht mehr finde und dagegen ist die Fotografie von Daikichi Amano der reinste Kindergarten. Denn das, was Daikichi Amano da fotografiert, also angedeuteten Squid Porn, das gibt es tatsächlich und genau das hatte Ellis damals verlinkt und auf dem Bild sah man genau das, was Ihr grade denkt. Das war bizarr, es wird aber noch besser. Zwei Tage später, oder so, da hat er dann Frog Porn verlinkt. Rule 34: If it exists, there is porn of it. True, true.
Wie auch immer, auf Don’t Panic gibt’s ein Interview mit Daikichi Amano und auch das ist sehr, sehr abseitig und strange.

I saw a cockroach that had head and the body separated with the surprise and scary when having begun to run with the head and the body in separate directions. The scorpion is like the shrimp in the taste, and there was feeling that the grig (Ed – some kind of nasty bug) was quite delicious as it is like the almond, too.

Das Video schaut sich ja einiges von Chris Cunninghams Video zu The Horrors „Sheena is a parasite“ ab und der Track könnte auch etwas spannender sein, aber hey: Octopi gehen halt immer.
Die japanische Stadt Hakodate hat offizielle Tourismus-Videos drehen lassen – voller Explosionen und Alien-Invasionen, gigantischen Robotern die sich mit gigantische Mecha-Squids kloppen. Das da oben ist der erste von drei Teilen und der beginnt mit mit einer Umfrage unter 100 Aliens, laut der Hakodate die Nummer Eins der besten Städte für eine Alien-Invasion sei. Die anderen zwei Teile gibt’s bei Pink Tentacle.
Eric White nennt seine Tentakelwürste „Redneck Sushi“ und die nächsten Rindswürste, die ich mir koche, werden exakt so angerichtet. Würste als Kraken, ich fass’ es nicht. Die nächste Stufe wäre dann sowas wie Ctulhu-Wurst mit Lovecraft-Gemüse.

A few years ago, Wisconsin Zoological Museum worker Paula Holahan opened some cabinets that hadn’t been touched for decades. Inside, she found several boxes of delicate glass replicas of ocean life.

Flickr User Joseph Wu hat ein ganzes Set mit Origami Octopi hochgeladen, die haben zwar im Gegensatz zu den mutierten Exemplaren nur acht Arme und sind auch viel kleiner, aber dafür kann man sich diesen Hoschi hier selber basteln und im Gegensatz zu dem Riesenkraken aus „20000 Meilen unter dem Meer“ im Wohnzimmer ins Regal stellen, gleich neben die Jules Verne Bücher. Und das ist ja auch schonmal was.

Das Toba Aquarium in Japan hat ein paar mutierte Octopi, dieser hier hat 85 Arme und ich behaupte, das ist tatsächlich Cthulhu, der den Wahnsinn unter den Japanern sät. Cthulhu ist also verantwortlich für’s japanische Fernsehen und Cosplay.
The Toba Aquarium in the nearby town of Toba also has a few extraordinary octopus specimens, although they no longer appear to be on permanent display. Every now and then, though, the aquarium pulls them out of storage for the world to see.
Their most well-known specimen is an 85-tentacled Common Octopus captured in 1957 at nearby Toshijima island. This remarkable creature — which, like the Shima Marineland octopus, has 8 main arms that branch out to form scores of tentacles — made quite a stir when it first went on display at Toba Aquarium a half-century ago. A few years later, the specimen was loaned to the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, where it famously caught the attention of the Showa Emperor.

Marine experts have given 25 octopuses a Rubik’s Cube each in a study aimed at easing their stress levels in captivity. Scientists believe the intelligent sea creatures have a preferred arm out of eight that they use to feed and investigate with. They are now testing this theory with a month-long observation project in which the octopuses will be given food and toys to play with.

Early this morning staff from Museum Victoria collected a huge block of ice containing the creature, which is Australia’s largest discovered giant squid.
The animal has three hearts and blue blood, boasts a donut-shaped brain that surrounds its oesophagus, is six metres long, and weighs 240 kilograms.
Although mating has never been observed in giant squid, it is thought that what happens is that the male injects his sperm packages into the female’s arms. The process is likely to be a fairly violent affair as the female is probably not that keen on being injected. This is a problem for the amorous male as females are normally a third bigger than they are.
This is the kind of creativity that can be practiced virtually anywhere, given the tools and a some personal space for tinkering (minus the annoying calls from upstairs to take care of the garbage). The artists’ choice of materials might even come from the same garbage, originally, but soon the parts are transformed into coolest little mechanisms, a veritable shiny zoo of “robots and such”. As we admire their work, we can’t help but ask ourselves, if the stuff lying around our own house could be similarly recycled.
