Vor ein paar Tagen hatte die neue Doku „Copyright Criminals“ (Filmwebsite) auf PBS Premiere, der Film erscheint mir nicht ganz so super, wie „RIP: A Remix Manifesto“ (den gibt’s hier), aber immer noch sehr sehenswert, nicht zuletzt, weil die Masher Eclectic Method mitwirken.

1976 gestaltete Andrew Ainsworth (Website seines Designstudios) die Helme der Sturmtruppen und Piloten für Star Wars. Seit 2004 verkauft er Replicas der Helme, wofür er von Lucas Arts prompt verklagt wurde. In den USA gewann Lucas Arts, als der Fall nun aber in England verhandelt wurde, gewann Ainsworth, weil die Helme keine Schöpfungshöhe aufweisen, nicht als Kunst gelten und so unter Produkt-Design fallen, dessen Copyright dort 15 Jahre nach der Produktion auslaufen. Ich werde also demnächst auf die Insel ziehen und Sturmtruppenhelme verkaufen. (via io9)
In der Zwischenzeit hat der Papst™ sich selbst, also seinen Namen, den Titel und Bilder urheberrechtlich geschützt, weil er natürlich denkt, er hätte die Schöpfungshöhe. Ich denke tatsächlich, der Papst denkt wirklich, er besäße sogar sowas wie eine Schöpfungshoheit, was natürlich Unsinn ist, denn die Schöpfungsgeschichte ist nachweislich Bullshit und ich freue mich ehrlich, bei zukünftigen Lästereien über den Papst™ jetzt nicht nur Blasphemie zu verbreiten, sondern auch noch gegen Copyright-Blödsinn aus dem Vatikan zu verstoßen.

Left 4 Dead 8-Bit-Remix-Game

Eric Ruth hat eine 8-Bit-NES-Version von Left 4 Dead programmiert. Die finale Version wird alle Maps des Originals enthalten, in einer Auflösung von 256×240 Pixel und in 16 Farben. Das Game soll im Januar 2010 veröffentlicht werden und entgegen Ruths Q&A im Youtube-Infotext habe ich gestern irgendwo gelesen, dass Valve das Projekt mittlerweile durchaus kennt und großartig findet.

Klassische Kunst-Remixe für Anti-Magersucht-Kampagne

Illustrator Remus Grecu hat für eine Anti-Anorexia-Kampagne von Ogilvy & Mather klassische Kunstwerke mit Magersüchtigen remixed. Die Arbeiten wurden im Städel Museum Frankfurt (für das ich mal an einer Website mitgearbeitet habe) zwischen die Originale gehängt. Die Aktion gewann in Cannes dieses Jahr einen bronzenen Löwen und das zurecht. Auf der Website von Grecu gibt’s zwei weitere Motive.

I made the project in support of the Beastie Boys recent reissue of their “Check Your Head” album (one of my personal favorites.) The concept is that the Beastie Boys are mashed up with themselves, rapping over tracks sampling their own instrumentals, with all vocals and sampled elements coming from “Check Your Head.”
