The year 2010 marks the sixtieth anniversary of Charles Schulz’s enduring creation Peanuts.
When the strip debuted in 1950, the look and style of the characters were different than today. All of the many licensed products have reflected today’s look; few, if any, are in the original style.
As Dark Horse’s contribution to the anniversary, we decided to bring the original look back with these twin-packs of small vinyl figures. Each set shows the characters as they were in the old days and what they are like now.

The 16 x 5″ accordion card folds out to reveal the measured-out dance steps of the girl on one side and the boy on the other. Footwork included!

Apropos Murphy: Dessen Gesetz, nachdem alles, was schiefgehen kann, auch schiefgehen wird (Charlie Brown kann ein Lied davon singen), feiert 2009 60jähriges Jubiläum.
Among the many fine anniversaries in prospect this year, not the least is the 60th birthday of Murphy’s Law, alternatively – though erroneously – known as Sod’s Law or, if you’re really into this kind of thing, Finagle’s Law.
This is the commonly held perception that the world is inherently a perverse place; in other words, if something can go wrong, it will. The proverbial example of the principle is, of course, that if you drop a slice of toast, it will land buttered side down. There are countless others; people have written entire books of them and websites abound (including murphys-laws.com, to which my thanks).
The military are fond of: “The more advanced your equipment, the further you will be from civilisation when it fails.” Parents will relate to: “No child ever throws up in the toilet.” Drivers will appreciate: “The other lane is always faster.” Shoppers will relate to: “The simpler and quicker your transaction, the more complex and time-consuming the transaction of the person in front of you in the queue.”
Charlie Browns Anwendung für Murphys Law wäre dann: „The harder I want to kick that football, the higher I’ll fly“. Oder so ähnlich.

These Peanuts premiums from the 70s caught my eye in this election season. There’s something that’s so endearing about the characters that Charles Schultz created so many years ago.
Wo ich ja grade das Mammut-Comic Watchmen lese, da kommt mir das hier ja grade Recht: Evan Shaner hat die Watchmen gemalt, als Peanuts-Figuren. Charlie Brown als Doctor Manhattan, Linus als The Comedian, Schroeder als Ozymandias, Lucy als Silk Spectre, Snoopy als Rorschach und Pigpen als Nite Owl.

Jim Reardon inszenierte über 30 (der besten) Folgen der Simpsons (von ihm stammen beispielsweise „Treehouse of Horrors 2, 5 und 12“ oder „22 Short Films About Springfield“) und wirkte bei „Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures“ und „Tiny Toon“ mit. Anscheinend ist der Mann großer Fan von Itchy & Scratchy, denn der Kurzfilm „Bring me the Head of Charlie Brown“, der noch während seiner Studentenzeit 1986 entstand und bei Google Video goutiert werden kann, zeigt Charlie Brown als amoklaufenden Irokesenträger, der die Peanuts in Stücke schießt und ENDLICH das kleine, rothaarige Mädchen vögelt…
