Das hier ist ein Rhombidodecadodecahedron aus Papier und ein Rhombidodecadodecahedron ist kein Dinosaurier, sondern ein archimedischer Körper und der existiert tatsächlich: „In geometry, the rhombidodecadodecahedron is a nonconvex uniform polyhedron, indexed as U38. It is given a Schläfli symbol t0,2{5/2,5}, and by the Wythoff construction this polyhedron can also be named a cantellated great dodecahedron.“ (Wikipedia)

Ich habe keine Ahnung, was die deutsche Entsprechung für Rhombidodecadodecahedron ist, ich mag den Namen aber, sehr sogar. Rhombidodecadodecahedron. Ich weiß ja noch, was ein Dodekaeder ist, aber ein Rhombidodecadodecahedron? Aus Papier? Da weiß ich nur noch, dass das reinster Mathematik-Papercraft-Porno ist. Das Papiermodell stammt übrigens aus diesem Buch: Polyhedron Models (Amazon-Partnerlink).

Schöner Clip für das Langara College in Kanada mit einem animierten Popup-Buch, der mich an zwei andere Videos mit animiertem Papier erinnert, die ich aus ein paar Gründen nur so mittelspannend fand (das eine war mir zu schlecht gezeichnet, beim anderen war mir die Stop-Motion-Framerate zu niedrig). Dieses Video hatte ich schon ein paar Tage auf dem Schirm, hab’s mir aber grade erst angesehen: Buch-Papercut-Stopmotion, oder so ähnlich, für das New Zealand Book Council. Tatsächlich ziemlich super, die erste Minute ist ja schon nett, ab dann geht’s aber erst so richtig los.

Studio K hat alle Flächen aus Karten von New York und Paris ausgeschnitten und so das Netzwerk aus Straßen, Gassen und Parks freigelegt. Und wenn man die Dinger einmal wieder zusammenfaltet, kriegt man sie nie, nie wieder auseinander.

By removing the unnecessary, this New York City map-cut reveals the “paths, nodes, circles, boulevards, parks and streets” of the greatest city in the world.

Each of the four 3″ x 4″ paper panels fit together like panes of window. Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx are all represented, but it’s only when they’re combined and placed against a colorful backdrop that the city begins to take shape.

It must have taken a large amount of time and patience to create something like this. That’s probably why the one-of-a-kind piece is being sold for $550.00.

Dieses beeindruckende und sehr – vielleicht sogar extrem – im Dekonstruktivismus verhaftete Kunstwerk von Tom Friedman aus dem Jahr 2000 trägt den gnadenlos kontrastierenden Titel „Untitled“, die Beschreibung beschreibt allerdings genau das, was man auf dem Bild oben sieht (was ja so ganz allgemein als die Aufgabe von Beschreibungen angesehen wird):

Atari 2600, C64 und Pong zum Selberbasteln

Marshall Alexanders Foldskool Heroes sind Designer-Bastelbögen und eher so Standard, der neueste aber ist fantastisch: ein C64, ein Atari 2600 (in der Junior Version von 1986, pah!) und eine Pong Arcade-Machine als Papiertoys zum Selbstausschneiden und Zusammenkleben.

Paper Wars exhibition

Check out the Paper Wars show, opening May 15 at the Craze Gallery. It’s themed around the papercraft AK-47 and features many pieces based off that kit, as well as other sculptures like the one above.
