Trimpin ist Sound-Künstler, macht kinetische Skulpturen und komische Geräusche und das hier ist der Trailer zu einer Dokumentation über ihn, in der er einen gigantischen Turm aus E-Gitarren baut. Man hört es dem Song nicht wirklich an, aber für das Lied „No You Girls“ vom neuen (gar nicht mal so guten) Album „Tonight: Franz Ferdinand“ haben die Kunst-Mucker die Drums mit menschlichen Überresten gespielt.
Sänger Alex Kapranos hatte für ein paar Dollar eine Schachtel mit menschlichen Knochen erworben. Der Zeitschrift Spin berichtete er: “We tried maracas, we tried a tambourine; they seemed a bit obvious… One day I picked up the pelvis bone (sic) and started rattling the collarbone inside of it. Paul (Thomson) had two shoulder blades, and Nick (McCarthy) had the skeleton’s hands for clapping.”
“We didn’t have the skull, but we had all the teeth, so we rattled them around in a glass jar. There was no voodoo to it. They just happened to make a good sound.”

Ich wohne einen Steinwurf vom ehemaligen Checkpoint Charlie entfernt. Als ich da neulich vorbeilief, fielen mir die tausend Verkaufsstände mit Memorabilia aus Russland und dem kalten Krieg auf, unter anderem verkaufen die dort Gasmasken aus Militärbeständen. Und ja, ich habe kurz überlegt und irgendwann werde ich mir auch noch so ein Teil zulegen. Versprochen, weil: muss ja.
Die Herren im obigen Video hat genau das gemacht, sich in Berlin eine Gasmaske gekauft, und das Teil in eine Tröte umgebaut. Es wird nicht mehr viel absurder. Gasmasken aus dem kalten Krieg – als Tröten! Und dann spielen sie darauf „The Lion sleeps tonight“. WTF?!
Paul Rothman’s Fridgebuzzz Electronics hat diesen Knopf-Porn-Synthie aus einem Atari 400 gebastelt.
The Atari Synth is a polyphonic 12-oscillator, 3 modulator square wave synthesizer that’s controlled by arcade-style pushbuttons and potentiometers. Just press any of the 12 arcade buttons to activate the corresponding oscillator, the use the knobs to dial in the sound you’re looking for.
Presumably because the old Atari 400’s POKEY chip was too limited, they’ve gutted the old 8-bit computer and given it a brand new set of sound-producing circuitry.
