Chatroulette Map is a project that is grabbing the IP addresses of users, along with a screenshot, and then using Geo IP tools to pinpoint them roughly on the map. The site relies on the fact that Chatroulette connects users directly to each other (assumedly in an effort to save bandwidth) and in doing so exposes IP addresses.

The italian magazine WIRED asked us to draw a map based on the scenarios developed by the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto to help the reader in the net of ideas and hypothesis built by 7000 influencers from all over the world.

Studio K hat alle Flächen aus Karten von New York und Paris ausgeschnitten und so das Netzwerk aus Straßen, Gassen und Parks freigelegt. Und wenn man die Dinger einmal wieder zusammenfaltet, kriegt man sie nie, nie wieder auseinander.

By removing the unnecessary, this New York City map-cut reveals the “paths, nodes, circles, boulevards, parks and streets” of the greatest city in the world.

Each of the four 3″ x 4″ paper panels fit together like panes of window. Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx are all represented, but it’s only when they’re combined and placed against a colorful backdrop that the city begins to take shape.

It must have taken a large amount of time and patience to create something like this. That’s probably why the one-of-a-kind piece is being sold for $550.00.

Mars in the Nineteenth Century

Using telescopes, astronomers have been mapping the surface of Mars in surprising detail for over 100 years. This map of the area near Mare Australe in a polar region of the planet was made in 1890. Now you can check a satellite photo to see how accurate it really was.

Karte, die die Apollo 11-Mission auf einem Fußballfeld darstellt

Das ist sehr cool: während der Apollo 11-Mission setzte Neil Armstrong als erster Mensch einen Fuß auf den Mond. Small Steps und so. Die Mission war dann auch tatsächlich eher small, die damals erforschte Mondfläche beschränkt sich auf den Bruchteil eines Fußballfeldes. Ein paar Millionen Dollar für 100 Quadratmeter und dazu noch saukalt? Das geht auch billiger, dafür dann aber ohne Space.
