Vintage Fishmen

H. P. Lovecraft schrieb seine Geschichte „The Shadow Over Innsmouth“ laut Wikipedia November/Dezember 1931. The fucking Cthulhu-Myth is actually based on fucking true events, holy Great Old Ones in a chicken basket!

gillmen

A MAN with gill slits on his neck like a fish has been discovered in Germany and was examined recently by physicians and biologists at the University Clinic at Heidelberg. No “pre-natal influence” or other mystery is involved, the scientists agreed, but merely a “throw-back” to the condition of mankind’s fish-like and frog-like ancestors millions of years ago in evolution.

Cheesy Spoof-Commercial für Lovecrafts Necronomicon

(Youtube Direktoldones, Danke Stefan!)

Beggin’ for a new dark age?

H.P. Lovecraft-themed Fotoserie

What if… H.P. Lovecraft wrote a C-Programming-Manual?

Hier hat jemand tatsächlich Brian W Kernighan und Dennis M Ritchies „The C Programming Language“ im Lovecraft-Style geremixt. Ich wusste doch, dass Objektorientierung nur von Cthulhu stammen kann. printf(”That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange æons, even death may die”); return EXIT_SUCCESS;

People in the nearby towns had talked about C for nearly a century, and nothing new could be wilder or more hideous than what they had whispered and hinted years before. Many things had taught them secrecy, and there was now no need to exert pressure on them.

But at last I am going to defy the ban on speech about this thing. It was I who fled frantically out of C Recursion in the early morning hours of July 16, 1927, and whose frightened appeals for action brought on the whole reported episode. […]

Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu LHC wgah’nagl fhtagn.

A top boffin at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) says that the titanic machine may possibly create or discover previously unimagined scientific phenomena, or “unknown unknowns” – for instance “an extra dimension”.

“Out of this door might come something, or we might send something through it,” said Sergio Bertolucci, who is Director for Research and Scientific Computing at CERN, briefing reporters including the Reg at CERN HQ earlier this week.

Die ersten 10 Minuten aus „Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown“

(Youtube Direktlovecraft, via Popmoderne)

Lovecraft

(Youtube Direktcthulhu, via io9)

In Amerika erscheint bald die Doku „Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown“ auf DVD.

H.P. Lovecraft was the forefather of modern horror fiction, having created the Cthulhu mythos. Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown is a chronicle of his life, work and mind as told by such luminaries of weird tales as Ramsey Campbell, John Carpenter, Guillermo Del Toro, Neil Gaiman, Stuart Gordon, S.T. Joshi, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Andrew Migliore, Robert M. Price and Peter Straub.

Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn. The sunken city of the Great God Cthulhu. A hellishly dark aquatic scent, evocative of fathomless oceanic deeps, the mysteries of madness buried under crushing black waters, and the brooding eternal evil that lies beneath the waves.

Lovecraftian Commercial „Elder Sign“ und mehr Cthulhu

(Youtube DirektWTF?!, via Ectomo)

Arguing that students should return to the fundamentals taught in the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Necronomicon in order to develop the skills they need to be driven to the very edge of sanity, Arkham school board member Charles West continued to advance his pro-madness agenda at the district’s monthly meeting Tuesday.

“Fools!” said West, his clenched fist striking the lectern before him. “We must prepare today’s youth for a world whose terrors are etched upon ancient clay tablets recounting the fever-dreams of the other gods—not fill their heads with such trivia as math and English. Our graduates need to know about those who lie beneath the earth, waiting until the stars align so they can return to their rightful place as our masters and wage war against the Elder Things and the shoggoths!”

The controversial school board member reportedly interrupted a heated discussion about adding fresh fruit to school lunches in order to bring his motion to the table. With the aid of a flip chart, West laid out his six-point plan for increased madness, which included field trips to the medieval metaphysics department at Miskatonic University, instruction in the incantations of Yog-Sothoth, and a walkathon sponsored by local businesses to raise money for the freshman basketball program.

Lovecrafts „Shadow over Innsmouth“ als Musical in 1:38 Minuten

(Youtube Direktlovecraft, via Clockworker)

WTF?!

H.P. Lovecraft als Copywriter

Das ist ganz einfach brillant. Nuf said.

Peanut Butter Cup
In 1856, a fisherman from a tiny hamlet on the New England coast made a terrible pact with serpentine beasts from beneath the sea, that he might create the most delicious sweet seen upon the Earth since the days of the great Elder Race. Thus was forged the satanic pact between peanut butter and chocolate that resulted in the mutant offspring you see before you!

Chocolate Cherry Cordial
You must not think me mad when I tell you what I found below the thin shell of chocolate used to disguise this bonbon’s true face. Yes! Hidden beneath its rich exterior is a hideously moist cherry cordial! What deranged architect could have engineered this non-Euclidean aberration? I dare not speculate.

Tentacles and Cosmic SF: The Art of Lovecraft

Tentacular horrors, unnamable evils, and quests to the edges of alien-landscapes-on-earth like Antarctica were just some of the beautifully bizarre features of H.P. Lovecraft’s weird fiction. Creator of the Cthulhu Mythos, Lovecraft has had an enormous influence on readers and writers. But what about art? Ever since the first pulp covers showcasing Lovecraft’s fiction, visual creators have been interpreting his tentacular horrors, unnamable evils, and odd quests. Now, Centipede Press has issued one of the most audacious hardcover art books we have ever seen: The Art of Lovecraft: Artists Inspired by Lovecraft.

The Strange Life of H.P. Lovecraft

Uuuuuuuuuh!

The American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction. Lovecraft’s major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror: the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien. Originally aired on BBC Radio in 2006 with contributions from Neil Gaiman, S.T. Joshi, Kelly Link, Peter Straub, China Mieville and others.

On the Trail of Grotesque Gods from Space

gods.jpg

In his 1936 short story “The Shadow Out of Time,” classic weird fiction author H.P. Lovecraft describes a man who takes “long visits to remote and desolate places.” These places include the “vast limestone cavern systems of western Virginia – black labyrinths so complex that no retracing of my steps could even be considered,” and the “unknown deserts of Arabia,” wherever those may be.

Mark E. Smith von The Fall liest Lovecrafts „The Color from Space“
