Chatroulette Map is a project that is grabbing the IP addresses of users, along with a screenshot, and then using Geo IP tools to pinpoint them roughly on the map. The site relies on the fact that Chatroulette connects users directly to each other (assumedly in an effort to save bandwidth) and in doing so exposes IP addresses.

Googlemaps Zombie Outbreak Simulator

Binary Space Games haben einen Zombie Outbreak Simulator programmiert, der auf einem Ausschnitt von Washington auf Googlemaps basiert. Und sowas hätte ich jetzt gerne mit Google Earth und zwar weltweit. Gibt’s eigentlich ein Ausbau-Strategie-Spiel mit Zombies? Walking Dead als Starcraft-Klon? Und warum nicht?

Zombie Outbreak Sim is a sandbox game where you can witness 100’s and 1000’s of zombies sweeping across Washington DC on Google Maps. This particular map is close to the Catholic University of America, north of the Pentagon. Players can modify various settings such as zombie numbers, speed, infection times and so on, and then watch the results unfold.

Monopoly City Streets: Gigantisches Monopoly-Onlinegame auf Googlemaps

ZOMG! Hasbro hat in einer Partnerschaft mit Google ein gigantisches Online-Multiplayergame angekündigt, in dem man auf Googlemaps Monopoly spielen kann – mit echten Straßen und das weltweit! Bauen kann man online nicht nur Häuser und Hotels, sondern auch Stadien, Wolkenkratzer und Schlösser.

Die wahrscheinlich sinnvollste Anwendung für Googlemaps, seit mich meine Nichten um die Schloßallee beschissen haben, damals, Weihnachten 98. Los geht’s bereits übermorgen am 9. September. Snip von der Game-Website:

On the 9th SEPTEMBER, a world of property empire building on an unimaginable scale will be launched! A live worldwide game of MONOPOLY using Google Maps as the game board. The goal is simple. Play to beat your friends and the world to become the richest property magnate in existence.

Der größte Space Invader der Welt

Vicente Montelongo malt Retrogame-Charaktere per GPS und Googlemaps. Hier sein Space Invader und hier ist Pacman, Snip von einer Story auf der New York Times:

Pedaling the rectangular city blocks in San Francisco, Vicente Montelongo, 32, a graphic artist, realized the street layout lent itself to the pixeled shapes of vintage 1980s video game characters like Pac-Man, Q*bert and Donkey Kong. Back home with a printed-out Google map and a pencil, he drew Pac-Man chasing a ghost over in the Sunset District and then set out on his bike, iPhone in tow, GPS mapping application on. After riding 8.6 miles in an unwavering line, he uploaded the GPS track data from his phone, and had his picture.

“It’s a good way to get exercise and see the city,” said Mr. Montelongo, who is working on a series of GPS drawings based on the beloved video games of his youth. “You end up going on these streets that you would never otherwise go down.”
