Pink Tentacle hat ein paar sehr nette Blder der Weltausstellung 1970 in Osaka, Japan. Und selbstverständlich gab es auf dieser Weltausstellung einen Kampf zwischen Gamera und Monster X. Ich meine, wo sollen sich Riesenmonster auch sonst die Köppe einschlagen, wenn nicht auf einer Weltausstellung?
Flexidiscs waren dünne Vinylscheibchen in den 70ern und 80ern, die meistens irgendwelchen Magazinen beigelegt waren, ab und zu stolpert man auch heute noch über die Dinger. Pink Tentacle hat eine schöne Coversammlung mit jeder Menge Godzillas und japanischen Batman-Flexidiscs.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Japan saw an explosion in the popularity of sonosheets — cheap, flexible phonograph records printed on thin sheets of vinyl. Widely available from a variety of publishers, the most popular sonosheets featured theme music from TV anime, manga and tokusatsu, and they often came packaged inside booklets featuring colorful artwork. The sonosheet boom was short-lived, though — many companies went under as the market became flooded in the 1970s, and the phenomenon all but disappeared by the 1980s. Pink Tentacle hat ein paar sehr schöne Illustrationen von Yasushi Torisawa (zu dem ich leider kein Online-Portfolio gefunden habe) mit klassischen Toho Film-Monstern.
Grade friemle ich Dingsbumse in Gardinendingsbumse und weil ich von Gardinenfachbegriffen so gar keine Ahnung habe, schaue ich grade mal nach, was ich da wo reinfriemle. Friemeln ist übrigens ein tolles Wort und hat genau die gleiche Bedeutung wie Fummeln, nur ohne sexuellen Subtext, denn man friemelt nicht an schönen Mädchen herum, sondern man fummelt. Aber zurück zu den Dingsbumsen, die ich grade in Gardinendingsbumse friemle. Das eine Dingsbums sind kleine Röllchen, das andere Gardinendingsbums ist Kräuselband. Und jetzt friemle ich grade hundert kleine weiße Röllchen in mein Kräuselband. Toll!
Danach werde ich eine Pizza bestellen und nach der Pizza werde ich mich in die Badewanne legen, um dort zu baden (Ach!) und endlich diese beiden Comics zu Ende zu lesen, die ich schon seit Wochen angefangen mit mir herumschleppe und nicht dazu komme, weil sich meine tägliche Fahrt U-Bahn auf einen zweiminütigen Trip verkürzt hat. Pizza mampfen, an Gardinen rumfriemeln (um dann hernach die Gardinen aufzuhängen, selbstverständlich), baden… ein Sonntag genau so, wie er sein soll. Und natürlich erledige ich all das in der Unnerbux, gammelnd auf dem Bett schepp liegend, während im Hintergrund einer meiner Neuzugänge durchläuft:
Die unfassbar unfassbare Godzilla Millennium Box mit nicht weniger als sechs Godzilla-Filmen und einem Special, die ich mir sofort zulegen musste, nachdem ich sie bei Malte erspäht hatte. „Erspäht“ ist auch ein tolles Wort, nicht so toll wie „Friemeln“, aber dafür habe ich „erspäht“ glaube ich noch nie (!) benutzt. Auch super! Erspäht, erspäht, erspäht, erspäht, erspäht.

Die Firma Morita Shouji hat bisher sauteure Buddhas aus Holz produziert, jetzt produzieren sie sauteure Godzillas aus Holz (was ja ein Schritt nach vorne ist, wenn man da mal länger drüber nachdenkt), alles handgemachte Einzelstücke und limitiert auf 20 Exemplare. Das Video hatte ich eigentlich schonmal in den Links vor einer Woche oder so, jetzt habe ich aber auch den Shop dazu gefunden mit Bildern von tausend weiteren hölzernen Godzillas.

Eine Serie Sneaker von Puma, Japanmonster-themed. Oben links ist Ghidorah, rechts daneben Mothra, unten links Mechagodzilla und rechts daneben schließlich Godzilla. Der Wahnsinn geht allerdings noch weiter, Snip von High Snobiety:

Das ist das einzige ferngesteuerte Dingens you will ever need: ein ferngesteuerter Mechagodzilla, mit dem man durch Modelljapans latschen kann und pewpew LED-Laser aus den Händen feuern kann. Und wenn man dann alles zu Klump gehauen und gelasert hat, dann rotiert man mit dem Kopf wie Linda Blair. Kleiner Wermutstropfen: das Ding ist mit ¥84,000 beziehungsweise $828 Dollar nicht grade billig.
Eigentlich dachte ich immer, in Godzilla stecken verrückte Japaner, denen es Spaß macht, mit Gummikostümen durch schlechte Modelle von Tokyo zu trampeln. Stimmt aber gar nicht. In Godzilla stecken Knochen und Guts. Zwei ganz und gar godzillaige Flickr-Sets mit Anatomie-Bildern von your favorite Japan-Monster und mehr.

1964: Mothra vs. Godzilla makes its screen debut in Japan. Or was it Mothra Against Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Mothra or Godzilla vs. The Thing?
By whatever name you choose — and it went by all of them at one time or another — for those of us who grew up watching these entertaining romps, this is the quintessential Godzilla movie.
It had everything you could ask for: wonderfully cheesy special effects (acute halitosis never looked so good), great dubbing (in the English-language release, the talking went on after the Japanese actors had stopped moving their lips), a couple of hot Japanese twins (albeit a pair of faeries scarcely a foot tall), wanton, widespread destruction (Nagoya, rather than Tokyo, took the hit this time), and a monster to root for (the big moth).
Why do we love robots so much?
Well, we all love machines, right? Especially the ones which make our lives easier. Let’s face it, most of us can’t be separated from our iPods, laptops and iPhones these days. But how about when they turn against us? The time when our TV and cinema screens were full of clunky dustbins and oversized toasters just happy to help has long gone.
Ich weiß, ich wollte ja nach dem Zombie-Valentin nix mehr zu diesem überaus bescheuerten Tag sagen. Aber diese Godzilla-Valentins-Karten sind zu gut. Roar!
