Eine Wanduhr aus ‘nem 70s Magnetband, das direkt aus der EDV-Abteilung des Konzerns stammen könnte, in dem ich damals mein Praktikum machte und in der ein Raum voller schrankgroßer Maschinen rumstand, die Daten auf Magnetbändern aufzeichneten und die dann wiederum von einer Art Industrieroboter archiviert wurden. Jetzt neu zum An-die-Wand-hängen und Zeitablesen.

This is QLOCKTWO, the fourth dimension squared. A clock that tells time in words. It has a quadratic matrix of letters, where some of the letters are illuminated. The time is displayed as text in five minute intervals. If you need to have a more exact time, look in the corner at the illuminated dots. QLOCKTWO has a brightness sensor; with its help the illuminating power of the letters is automatically adjusted.
In unserem Haus steht heute noch eine uralte Uhr, die zu jeder vollen Stunde bimmelt, woran sich Besuch ja auch erstmal gewöhnen muss. Ich schätze mal, diese Uhr, die zu jeder vollen Stunde Zitate aus „Scarface“ von sich gibt, macht’s auch nicht sehr viel einfacher. Aber Uhren, die mit einem deftigen „Fuck Gaspar Gomez! And fuck the fuckin’ Diaz brothers! Fuck ‘em all! I bury those cockroaches!“ bimmeln, sind mir so ganz grundsätzlich sympatisch.
Eric Freitas baut Uhren, die so in Mittelerde oder in Hogwarts hängen könnten. Das hier ist noch eine seiner normaleren Arbeiten.

“Line” by lighting designer James Clar attempts to recreate color data systems through illuminating full-spectrum control of tri-color LEDs along its five foot array. The piece is basically a clock, where the RGB values are mapped to hours, minutes, and second creating trippy patterns that change throughout the day.
Wesco Limited, a toy manufacturer in Cheshire, England, will later this year release release a projection alarm clock in the shape of the popular Star Wars R2-D2 character.
The digital Bedol clock allows you to keep track of time in an eco-friendly way, without having to use any batteries whatsoever. The timepiece is powered by water and salt.
All the digits needed to display the time are located on cards positioned in a semi-circle around the left and right sides of the arm. The time itself is displayed in front of the arm. This gives the clock a “Stonehenge” like appearance. There are a total of 14 cards. Each card has two digits with one on each side. The software planner determines which card and which side is needed to display the time and then sends the necessary movement commands to the arm.
Ian built a very excellent LED hard drive clock from this design using a PIC microcontroller. It really is a very cool display – nice.
The Atmos 561 Clock, made by Jaeger LeCoultre and designed by Mark Newson, is powered entirely by changes in temperature and sits inside a block of crystal for good measure. According to The Watchismo Times, a change in temperature of one degree celsius can power the clock for two days.
There’s nothing more depressing than seeing your entire lifespan condensed down into something as small and contained as a clock. Can we really measure a lifetime’s worth of accomplishments (dick jokes) in a clock that ticks years instead of hours? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
