Was keiner macht, selbstverständlich.
The Firefox add-on “Pirates of the Amazon” inserts a “download 4 free” button on Amazon, which links to corresponding Piratebay BitTorrents. The add-on lowers the technical barrier to enable anyone to choose between “add to shopping cart” or “download 4 free”. Are you a pirate?
Looks like the folks from the Pirate Bay aren’t the only ones that want to secure P2P through encryption: Two developers by the names of Rich Jones and John Schanck have been working on a new P2P protocol that combines encryption with a degree of anonymity.
We decided to compile a list of the 25 most popular BitTorrent sites, and see how their (relative) popularity has grown over the past three months. Out of the 25 sites in the list, 21 improved their ranking in Alexa’s list of most popular sites on the Internet.
The popular BitTorrent site Mininova is currently Beta testing BitTorrent powered video streaming. The new streaming feature allows users to watch videos instantly, streamed from .torrent files.

Headweb is a new DRM-free video service from Sweden that sells feature films as DRM-free video-files; download them as torrents (earn credits for seeding them), burn them to DVD when they arrive. They’ve got 450 movies now and claim that they’ll break 1000 in short order. They’re also promising to open outside of Sweden soon
BTGuard is an easy to use proxy service that adds an extra layer of privacy to your BitTorrent transfers. The service is designed for BitTorrent users who don’t want their ISPs or any third party to log or throttle their IPs or traffic.
btguardBTGuard reroutes all your BitTorrent traffic through their servers in Canada. This means that anyone who connects to you via BitTorrent, even the MPAA or RIAA, will see BTGuard’s IP, and not yours.

Mashup in Heaven
Aaaaaw: Norwegian Recycling from Norway created again a wonderful boot, called “Mashups In Heaven” and the title say everything about the track. It’s a great mix of some classic tracks like Eric Clapton’s “Tears In Heaven”, Lionel Richie’s “Say You, Say Me”, Bob Dylan’s “Workingman’s Blues #2″, Aphrodite’s Child’s “Rain and Tears”, Blues Traveler’s “Hook” & Fredrik Kempe.
Music DRM ‘dead by next summer’
Killing DRM is saving digital music, reckons British retailer 7Digital. The company says DRM-free music sales now outnumber sales of DRM-enumbered music by 4:1 , and credits EMI with the shift.
Sub Pop Begins To Sell MP3s
You’ve got to hand it to Sub Pop. They’ve maintained a killer roster, have continued to crank out vinyl at a reasonable cost, and have now started selling MP3 albums from their catalog. The Seattle indie opened up their MP3 shop last week, which now includes around 200 titles or so.
Torrent Wars: Demonoid Torrent Tracker Site Shut Down by Canadian RIAA
The Demonoid torrent tracker has gone the way of OiNK and (apparently) Albumbase before it, after the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) started playing hardball with the site’s hosting company.
UK music store: DRM-free music outsells protected tunes four to one
DRM-free music sells at a much higher rate online than protected music, according to UK-based digital music store 7 Digital. In fact, customers buy it four times as often as they do DRMed music. As a result, almost 80 percent of the store’s sales are of DRM-free content. 7 Digital may not sound familiar to some, but it carries over 3 million songs and has many selections from major artists in addition to independent labels.

Hod Lipson didn’t set out to revolutionize manufacturing. He just wanted to design a really cool robot, one that could “evolve” by reprogramming itself and would also produce its own hardware—a software brain, if you will, with the ability to create a body.

Archaelogists Found Evidence of Zombie Attack in Ancient Egypt!
Zombie attacks are a very, very serious matter. So it’s only right that the Archaeology, a publication of the always serious Archaeological Institute of America, delved into the evidence of a zombie attack, caused by the Solanum virus, in 3000 BC Egypt: „… in 1892, a British dig at Hierakonpolis unearthed a nondescript tomb containing a partially decomposed body, whose brain had been infected with the virus (Solanum) that turns people into zombies. In addition, thousands of scratch marks adorned every surface of the tomb, as if the corpse had tried to claw its way out!“
Animals In Formalin Preservation
In the preservation of animal specimens for study, animals are usually preserved using formalin where the whole body would be immersed in the posture in which it is supposed to stay permanently because it will be hardened. The ratio of formalin to carcass must at least be 12 to 1 to ensure a good fixation.

Prince macht sich jetzt komplett zum Horst: Prince to fan sites: No pictures, no artwork, no album covers 4 U
The Paisleyed One wants his fans 2 know that doves cry each time they see Prince album covers and concert photographs available 4 U 2 view on fan sites. (The doves, which reportedly clock 12-hour shifts before a bank of monitors in a secretive Twin Cities location, are said to be just faking the tears at this point.) To protect their delicate feelings, Prince has gone on a legal offensive against Internet fan sites.
Prince’s lawyers have requested that three fan sites remove the offending artwork, images, and even their “own photographs of their Prince-inspired tattoos,” according a to a joint statement from the site operators. Roy Block
Roy Block is an experiment, sort of game, with a tangible interface that touches the field of mixed reality. The game features a self-willed heroine who is trying to get from the very left to the very right of the screen without touching the bottom and dying. However there is nothing she can stand and jump on so she needs the player to help her. The player has two small wooden blocks, in each hand one. Pressed on the screen they are being recognised by the game and the heroine can jump on them. To make the game even more challenging there are hazardous flower-like enemies who try to destroy the heroine when she comes too close.

Ultima – a piece of gaming history
Once upon a time before there was WoW, and actually before many of us existed, a series of games called Ultima was created. 27 years later you probably know it only as Ultima Online, but before MMORPG superceded RPG it was a long-running series of games loved by generations.
The History of Atari: 1971-1977
The most important project at Atari in 1977 was the interchangeable games console, Stella. The final version of “Stella”, now renamed by marketing as the Atari Video Computer System (VCS) contained the following:
- 6507 processor (6502 derivative) running at 1.2 MHZ
- 128 bytes of RAM, 4K bytes of ROM addressable on cartridges
- TIA custom video and audio chip
- 6532 timer
- Two controller ports that could support 8-way joysticks with a fire button, potentiometer-based paddles, driving controllers, or keypads
The target was to support Pong and Tank!-style games. For this they included 2 8-bit “player” objects, and 3 1-bit “ball” objects plus a low-resolution playfield supported in hardware.
How to Win at Monopoly – a Surefire Strategy
- Always buy Railroads; never buy Utilities *
- At the beginning of the game, focus on acquiring a complete C-G (Color Group) in Sides 1+2, even if it means trading away properties on Sides 2+3. After acquiring one of these C-Gs, build 3 houses as quickly as possible: no more houses, no less!
- Once your first C-G starts to generate some cash, focus on completing a C-G and building 3 houses in Sides 3+4.
- Single properties are the least good investment if you don’t build on them.
- The only exception to the above rules are when you need to acquire stray properties to prevent your opponents from completing their C-Gs to accomplish the above strategy.

70s Planet of the Apes Action Figures Commercial
Interview: William Gibson
You made your name as a science-fiction writer, but in your last two novels you’ve moved squarely into the present. Have you lost interest in the future?
It has to do with the nature of the present. If one had gone to talk to a publisher in 1977 with a scenario for a science-fiction novel that was in effect the scenario for the year 2007, nobody would buy anything like it. It’s too complex, with too many huge sci-fi tropes: global warming; the lethal, sexually transmitted immune-system disease; the United States, attacked by crazy terrorists, invading the wrong country. Any one of these would have been more than adequate for a science-fiction novel. But if you suggested doing them all and presenting that as an imaginary future, they’d not only show you the door, they’d probably call security.
The War Against BitTorrent: Attack of the ISPs
There has been a lot of fuss lately about Comcast’s efforts to throttle and interfere with BitTorrent traffic, but they are by no means the only ISP involved in such efforts. Hundreds of larger and smaller ISPs all around the world try to limit BitTorrent traffic on their networks, time to give an overview, the war is on.

Keep on seeding in a free world.
