Vielleicht habt Ihr die Story um OK Gos neues Musikvideo schon mitbekommen, falls nicht: Die haben einen neuen Clip bei Youtube hochgeladen und wunderten sich nach zwei Tagen, warum der nicht, wie alle ihre vorigen Videos, viral durchstartete. Woraufhin sie einen seltsamen Film posteten, in dem sie die Leute anflehten, das Ding anzuschauen. Was sie offensichtlich nicht wussten: Ihr Video war geo-geblockt, Ihr wisst schon: This video is not available in your Country.

Als ihnen das nun jemand gesteckt hat, habe sie ihr Video selbst in ihrem Vimeo-Account hochgeladen: „Official video for OK Go’s “This Too Shall Pass” off of the New Album “Of the Blue Colour of the Sky”. The video was filmed live and features the Notre Dame marching band. Directed by Brian L. Perkins and OK Go.“

NewTeeVee hat die ganze Story:

last Friday OK Go premiered a stunt-heavy music video for the new single This Too Shall Pass, featuring a cast of 200 — including the Notre Dame marching band — who perform the tune in one take, with some fun surprises along the way. Alas, though, the video has so far only acquired about 10,500 views, which is surely disappointing to the band, yet easily explained: The video is geoblocked by Capitol Records in many international locations, and embedding in all regions has been disabled.

  1. Hey, mal ganz krass spekuliert: Was wenn dieses ganze Hin&Her und Geogeblocke und die Video-Message der Band Teil des Planes ist? Also Teil der viralen Kampagne? Weil spätestens jetzt berichten ziemlich viele über das Video. DAS wäre ja mal ganz schlitzohrig. :-)

  3. Wenn man dem Link dazu folgt und die Kommentare dort liest, kann man eine Stellungnahme der Band dazu lesen: Das Video mit der Bitte war ein Scherz und wurde aufgenommen bevor das Musikvideo veröffentlicht wurde!
    Offensichtlich war das ein viraler Geniestreich, wenn es dadurch jetzt so die Runde macht.

  11. Hm… vielleicht ist das auch nur nicht durchgestartet weil es lahm ist?
    Ich werd damit jetzt bestimmt unendlich viel Unmut auf mich ziehen, aber mir erschliesst sich nicht was daran toll sein soll. =)

  15. Kann jedem nur empfehlen, sich die Kommentare bei der newteevee-Meldung durchzulesen. Wie oben schon geschrieben von Andreas: Das ganze war ein (in gewisser Weise schlechter) Scherz der Band. Was ich mir – als Ok go-Fan – auch gut vorstellen kann. Passt zum Image der Band.
    Die Jungs nehmen sich halt nicht ernst und machen sich gleichzeitig einerseits über das elendige Geblocke von Videos als auch über das “verdammt, ich muss jetzt viral werden!” und/oder öffentliche Rumgeheule von Möchtegern-(Internet-)Stars lustig. Ich weiß nicht, ob ich das sofort verstanden hätte, wenn ich die Aufklärung nicht gelesen hätte, aber ich find’s eigentlich recht cool sogar. Vom Song und vom Video hab ich von denen schon besseres gehört/gesehen – aber hey: Neues Ok go-Album! Yeah!

  16. Hm, das Video bei YouTube hat 345,000 views seit dem 8ten Januar (6 Tage). Das bei Vimeo hat 13,000 innerhalb eines Tages. Da hat das YouTube Video hochgerechnet immer noch fast 4.5 mal so viele views wie das Vimeo video.

    Something smells here…

    PS: Entweder die Plattenfirma (oder sonstwer) hat das inzwischen geaendert oder es sind nur sehr bestimmte Laender geblockt, bei mir geht YouTube problemlos bei dem Video (UK). Nur embedding geht nicht.

  17. Bei dem ganzen youtube-Bashing wegen geblockter Videos sollte man übrigens iTunes’ “Nein, das ist jetzt gerade in IHREM iTunes-Store nicht verfügbar” nicht vergessen – wollte mir gerade das besagte neue Ok go-Album holen. Geht nicht, weil in Deutschland. Yeeha!

    die story mit dem country-closed video an sich ist total an mir vorbei, aber nachdem da graswurzel-sniper-trompeter sich in eine lila Kapelle einmischten bin ich vor lachen vom stuhl gefallen und weiss warum das vid viral sein kann/soll/IST.
