Diese Hai/Haus/Skulptur-Kombination wurde 1986 aufgestellt und hat wahrscheinlich schon tausendmal im Netz die Runde gemacht, ich kannte sie bisher noch nicht. Jedenfalls hat da einer einen gigantischen Mega-Shark im Dach und ich will jetzt sofort mein Giant Octopus-Dach und zwar aus Solar-Zellen!
In Wahrheit ist das hier natürlich der Hai aus dieser Szene von „Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus“, in der er mal schnell aus dem Wasser hüpft und ein Flugzeug plattmacht. Danach ist er auf dem Weg nach unten durch ein Wurmloch gefallen und im Jahr 1986 auf dem Dach eines Herrn in Oxford gelandet. Klingt ziemlich plausibel, wenn man mich fragt.
This ordinary home (built as a semi-detached house in about 1860 but now attached by a link to a second house to the north) suddenly became the centre of world attention, and the headless shark still excites interest today.
Bill Heine commissioned the shark and still owns the house. An American who studied law at Balliol College, he was running two Oxford cinemas at the time, but since 1988 he has been better known as a Radio Oxford presenter. When pressed by journalists to provide a rationale for the shark, he suggested the following:
The shark was to express someone feeling totally impotent and ripping a hole in their roof out of a sense of impotence and anger and desperation…. It is saying something about CND, nuclear power, Chernobyl and Nagasaki.
The headless sculpture, with the label “Untitled 1986″ fixed to the gate to the house, was erected on the 41st anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Created by the sculptor John Buckley, it is made of fibreglass, weighs four hundredweight, and is 25 feet long.

Hatte ich schon mal irgendwo von gehoert, aber war mir gar nicht bewusst dass das in Oxford ist. Muss ich mir bei Gelegenheit irgendwann mal angucken, irgendwann im Fruehling oder Sommer. Auf der Site scheinen noch so einige interessante Sachen ueber Oxford (oder zumindest den Teil von Oxford) zu stehen, ich fand ja schon mal den Polizisten im vierten Bild hier ziemlich cool. So sind die da aber nicht immer.
Besser als ein gefrorener Urinklumpen, der ins Dach einschlägt ist so ein Hai allemal. Aber ich befürchte, dass im Mutterland des Bauamtes, Veterinäramtes, Ordnungsamtes und diverser anderer Ämter solch eine bauliche Veränderung und somit auch ein Octopusdach leider niemals durchsetzbar sein werden. Schade eigentlich.
