Ich bin nun wirklich kein Hip Hopper und das meiste aus diesem Genre finde ich Unsinn, auch von dem Kram, der mir immer wieder als „echt gut“ empfohlen wird. Aber wenn Hip Hop 30 Jahre alt wird und die BBC das mit einem 60minütigen Mix mit 538 Tracks (!) aus 30 Jahren HipHop-Geschichte (und ein paar weiteren Shows) feiert, dann muss ich ja wohl. Außerdem weiß ich ja, das zu Hip Hop noch Breakdancing, DJing und Graffiti gehört, und die sind schon alle mein Thema und überhaupt: Als ich damals noch aufgelegt habe, baute ich durchaus immer mal gerne die Sugarhill Gang ein. Noch dazu bringt Grandmaster Flash demnächst sein erstes Album seit 1988 heraus und hat mit Wired darüber gesprochen, wie er damals DJing erfand, Snip:

Flash: Yeah, absolutely. A lot of us DJs, in our own way, are musicians. For example, when I was coming up I tried my hand at learning an instrument, and there were lots of frustrating moments. But then I started cutting music class, and got my ass kicked for it. So I turned the turntable into an instrument, changing the way it is normally used. Once I started playing it like a guitar, it became an instrument. We are artists, and I think it’s important to realize that.
Wired.com: You’re innovators as well. DJs modded turntables into instruments, and now tech companies are making gear for you.
Flash: In the ’70s, turntables like today’s didn’t even exist. I remember going into backyards and abandoned car lots and taking parts from different components. I literally had to put together pieces of music and technology to make my art. Sure, electronic companies are catering to us now, but we had to build our own turntables back in the day to make adjustments for torque and so on. We even had to build slip mats. We redefined the stylus, which came in two different classifications, elliptical and conical. I had to figure out which one worked best: The elliptical stayed in the groove, so I had to use the conical, which is shaped more like a nail, but worked when I scratched it. We literally had to build the science from scratch.

wenn das ernst gemeint war, dann hast du eher einen eingeschraenkten horizont. auch wenn es ne menge schrott gibt, lebt echter rap/hiphop heute unter anderem durch leute wie madlib und doom (seit neustem ohne MF) weiter.

Nicht wirklich ernst… hab nur in der letzten Zeit ‘ne Menge Mist hören müssen, das verdrießt schonmal. ^^ Da wünscht man sich gern ein paar Sachen aus der Jugend wieder zurück. Gibt gewiss noch guten Rap, dein Link ist das beste Beispiel.
