Bootsteaks – A Bootleg Tribute To The Beatsteaks

beats

Ein Beatsteaks-Mashup-Album bestehend aus Samples ihres neuesten Albums auf 3 CDs und 31 Tracks von drölf Mashup-Künstlern und unter anderem QOTSA, Peter Bjorn & John, Napalm Death, Bowie, Michael Jackson, Marley und The Clash: Bootsteaks – A Bootleg Tribute To The Beatsteaks (via Mashuptown). You’re welcome.

This year [The Beatsteaks] released their 7th album, self-titled: „Beatsteaks“.

As the special edition of the album comes along with all Instrumental & Acapella versions of the album tracks, it was about time to mash them in total and maybe inwardly they requested a Bastard Pop treatment by some of the big names in the Mashup scene. Who knows?

This Mashup Tribute to the Beatsteaks contains 3 virtual CDs featuring a bunch of international mashup artists. On CD1 all Beatsteaks vocals are mashed against different kind of artists and music genres from yesterday to today. CD2 has a focus on the Beatsteaks instrumentals and we tried to get some well known voices on top of their songs. And finally, CD3 collects some Bonus Tracks of previously released & unreleased Beatsteaks Mashups, also containing material of their previous albums like „Smack Smash“, „.limbo messiah“ or „Boombox“.

Batmobile hiding under the Millennium Falcon

BxZfqZQIMAAJ9cO

I like these for a lot of reasons. For one, the clashing tone deafness of some of these mash-ups is amazing – Superman as a BAD Jedi? 3P0 as Batman??!? I also like how every time one of these is released there are people on Twitter moaning about how these filmmakers should be making their movies, not fooling around like this. I think it’s funny when people tell other people how to do their jobs about which they know nothing.

But most of all I just like the sense of fun. I like Zack Snyder, a good time bro who happens to also be a masterful visual storyteller, has goosed JJ Abrams – who, by the way, happens to be a normcore bro who is highly competent at filmmaking. I like that they’re basically having an inter-office prank war. I like that at the very least something fun will come from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Mondo buys Death Waltz Records

robo8_big

Mondo is thrilled to announce the acquisition of elite UK soundtrack label Death Waltz Recording Company. Expanding their global reach for stunningly packaged and highly demanded soundtracks, Mondo and Death Waltz will converge to deliver an even greater offering for music aficionados and film fans alike. With over two decades of music industry experience, Death Waltz founder, Spencer Hickman, joins the Mondo team as Label Manager to lead both record labels in partnership with Mondo Creative Director, Justin Ismael.

Mondo’s acquisition will allow both labels to elevate and increase releases in addition to expanding access. Mondo and Death Waltz are building a unified release schedule for 2015 and are excited to showcase their existing projects this weekend at MondoCon in Austin, TX on September 20 and 21 at The Marchesa Hall & Theater.

The Secret History of the Vocoder

The Secret History of the Vocoder

Happy 30th, Bill Cosby Show!:

clairehuxtableDie Cosby Show wird diesen Monat 30 Jahre alt.

If The Cosby Show’s racial politics were merely implied, its gender politics were clear, pointed, and decidedly progressive. Everyone was so busy making a fuss over the show’s blackness that relatively few noted, at the time, that Cosby had smuggled proud and vocal feminism into the country’s most popular family sitcom.

The Other Huxtable Effect: Thirty years ago, The Cosby Show gave us one of TV’s great feminists. (via MeFi)

Tugboat Printshop Woodcuts

I mean seriously: Look at this. WHOA!

We are Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth, and together we are Tugboat Printshop. We have been working together since 2006 as a 2 person artist team specializing in fine art woodcut print editions.

To make our woodcut prints, we carve our collaborative drawings in low relief on blocks of 3/4″ birch plywood. Once carved, blocks are rolled up with ink and printed onto archival paper to create the finished artworks.

In addition to the exacting care we take in the making of our woodcut editions, our prints are all published with top-shelf oil-based inks onto fine papers.

Ask A Mortician is a Book!

It helps with the grieving process.“ I can relate to that.

smokeA young mortician goes behind the scenes, unafraid of the gruesome (and fascinating) details of her curious profession.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty—a twenty-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre—took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. Thrown into a profession of gallows humor and vivid characters (both living and very dead), Caitlin learned to navigate the secretive culture of those who care for the deceased.

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters and unforgettable scenes. Caring for dead bodies of every color, shape, and affliction, Caitlin soon becomes an intrepid explorer in the world of the dead. She describes how she swept ashes from the machines (and sometimes onto her clothes) and reveals the strange history of cremation and undertaking, marveling at bizarre and wonderful funeral practices from different cultures. Her eye-opening, candid, and often hilarious story is like going on a journey with your bravest friend to the cemetery at midnight. She demystifies death, leading us behind the black curtain of her unique profession. And she answers questions you didn’t know you had: Can you catch a disease from a corpse? How many dead bodies can you fit in a Dodge van? What exactly does a flaming skull look like?

Hardcore Mansion banned:

Nothing new here: Politicians know shit about Hardcore. „Daniel Lewis, of Milton Road, Clapham in Bedfordshire, wanted his post to be addressed to ‘Hardcore Mansions‘ instead of his house number. He said he chose it because the name reminded him of nights out in his younger days. Bedford Borough Council refused, saying the proposed name was ‘inappropriate’.“ (via Arbroath)

John Peels Record-Boxes launched

peel

Legendary.

In collaboration with The Space, the John Peel Archive is to begin exploring the cultural context of what lies on the shelves, as we delve deeper into John’s treasure trove with the help of key figures involved with the music. The “Record Box” format will allow their musical selections to be heard and stories told – like a kind of Super Mixtape with the curator’s scribbles splashed around the casing of our virtual D90s.

These Record Boxes form the foundation of our vision to create 1,000s of interrelated Record Boxes – openly compilable by anyone – spanning the knowledge and everyday experiences of the diverse musical history that has come to define a nation’s counter-cultural identity.

Black market for Ebola Survivors’ Blood:

In Afrika hat sich ein Schwarzmarkt für das Blut von überlebenden Ebola-Patienten gebildet: „Convalescent serum — serum collected from someone who has survived an infectious disease — has been used to treat Ebola victims. […] Blood from Ebola survivors is rich with antibodies against the deadly virus, and since there is currently no approved drug to fight it, some have become desperate enough to take fate into their own hands and turn to the black market for the experimental serum.“
