New Free Okkervil River EP
Will Sheff & Co. are passing along the Golden Opportunities Mixtape, a nine-song collection of eight covers and one live original (the holiday appropriate "Listening To Otis Redding At Home During Christmas") for free download at their (currently crashed) website. The covers includes stabs at John Cale, Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell, among others. You get more than just the sounds with the download, though: The ever-wordy Okkervil provide descriptive liner notes and the extremely Christmas-y cover art pictured below.

Pitchfork: Top 50 Music Videos of 2007
If you're talking music videos in 2007, quantity was not an issue. Label-underwritten clips were just the tip of the iceberg. Bands sponsored contests, and dozens of videos would be made for a single song. Fans would make their own pieces, without being asked, just for kicks. Singers were filmed walking through Paris and riding in a cab and standing on a balcony. Not to mention the army of fans with small portable cameras, persevering surprising show moments and spontaneous performances.
So finding the best of these took some serious sifting.

News on George Romero Presents ‘Deadtime Stories’
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a good horror anthology. Being a big fan of ‘Creepshow, ‘Tales From the Darkside,’ and who can forget ‘Tales From The Crypt,’ I have been longing for the day horror fans would be given another worthy horror anthology movie. (Instead we were given ‘Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror’ ICK!)
It turns out that there still may be some hope in having my wish come true. A new horror anthology film called ‘Deadtime Stories’ is being written and directed by Jeff Monahan. It also being presented by one of the masters of horror, George A.Romero.

The New(er) Typography: Counterless, Bold and mostly Geometric
As my feed count increased it became increasingly clear that this year's trend was a new typography: Devoid of counters, generous in girth, and joyous in application. As 2007 comes to a close, here is a partial, yet global, celebration of The New(er) Typography — plenty remains out there and unnoticed here, but you've probably seen it on your own.

New Light Glows For 12 Years
Litroenergy is a new type of material that emits light for 12 years without needing electricity or sun exposure. The self-luminous micro-particles are called Litrospheres and are said to be non-toxic, inexpensive and equivalent to a 20 watt incandescent bulb.
The Litrospheres give off a continuous illumination, and can be designed to glow in any color. In addition, they are not affected by heat or cold, and are 5,000-pound crush resistant. They can be injection molded or added to paint. The fill rate of Litroenergy micro particles in plastic injection molding material or paint is about 20%.

Top 10 Incredible Recordings
Before I start on the list, I feel that I should advise that a couple of the items here are quite horrific and I would recommend that those who are weak of heart or who have a nervous disposition avoid them.

iPod 1949: Radio Hat
It is refreshing to note that not all radio manufacturers in this country believe that radio broadcasting is doomed to early extinction. It seems certain that American ingenuity and inventiveness will do much to keep it in the foreground for generations to come.
This is exemplified by an entirely new radio receiver - the Radio Hat - illustrated on the cover of this magazine. Communication, reception of news, time and weather reports, are a constant necessity to people in this country. So is a light and portable receiver, such as the Radio Hat, illustrated in these pages.
