NME: Die kranksten Musikvideos aller Zeiten

Gracenote Music Map
Gracenote, the company that usually provides the album information when you rip a CD, launched an interesting Music Map application that shows the "popularity" of artists and albums by region and country in many parts of the world. It does this based on how often Gracenote's database is queried about particular albums or artists.

The Almost-Impossible Rock & Roll Quiz
You may know the original title of Metallica's Kill 'Em All, but are you sure you can name the final retail cost of Tom Petty's 1981 album Hard Promises? Challenge yourself to four decades of the trickiest, weirdest and most off-the-wall trivia questions ever in our fifty-eight question quiz, and tabulate your own rock & roll IQ.

P2P Downloaders Buy More Music
A newly study commissioned by Industry Canada, which includes some of the most extensive surveying to date of the Canadian population on music purchasing habits, finds what many have long suspected (though CRIA has denied) - there is a positive correlation between peer-to-peer downloading and CD purchasing. The Impact of Music Downloads and P2P File-Sharing on the Purchase of Music: A Study For Industry Canada was conducted collaboratively by two professors from the University of London, Industry Canada, and Decima Research, who surveyed over 2,000 Canadians on their music downloading and purchasing habits. The authors believe this is the first ever empirical study to employ representative microeconomic data.

Star Trek Line of Urns and Caskets
For the millions of fans on our planet and beyond, our new line of STAR TREK urns, caskets, monuments and vaults will be an important discovery indeed. After ten movies and five television series, phrases like “Live long and prosper,” “Resistance is futile” and “Space: the final frontier” have become part of our global vocabulary.

Jedi Academy in New York
Want to be a Jedi? Don’t just flail your lightsaber like the (in)famous Star Wars kid … As Yoda would’ve said: "To Star Wars Jedi Academy you must go".

Great pizza moments in film
Stoners, mob bosses, school kids, everyone seems to like pizza—because you know what they say: Even when it’s bad, it’s pretty good.

Und so.

Advanced Video System: The Nintendo Computer That Never Was
This is the Nintendo "Advanced Video System," a Famicom-era concept for a home computer shown at CES in 1985. (Aw, look at the cassette drive!)
If you don't see any wires at all, it's because the entire prototype was designed to communicate via infrared. With all the hassles we have with modern radio-based wireless peripherals, I can only imagine trying to build a system around infrared would have been much more frustrating for designers and end-users both.
I really like the look of the AVS—and not just because it looks like a NES. The abundance of right angles broken up only by the 45° cursor keys looks modern still. (In perhaps a retro-modern way!)

Alien abduction lamp
The Abduction Lamp is not meant to be a toy. It is supposed to be made in high quality from metal and glass. It is my hope that someone with a playful mind like yourself would want to have a lamp like this in their home.

Coloring the brain's wiring
Harvard university researchers developed a system that causes neural circuitry to glow in any of 90 different colors. The "Brainbow" process involves inserting genes borrowed from bioluminescent jellyfish, corals, or synthetic sources. Those genes produce proteins that color individual neurons.

Der nächste Streik kommt also ganz bestimmt. Und wenn der ausgerechnet den Transport trifft, dann ist das nur logisch. In Zeiten der globalisierten Wirtschaft und der Just in Time Produktion ist der Gütertransport die Stelle, an der es am meisten weh tut.

Steampunk Pac Man
When this game was first released in 1880 it was so hugely popular in taverns and inns that the bank of England was forced to mint more threepenny bits to keep up with demand. The game was created by messrs Nam & Nam and Co. as a novelty pastime for the masses. Outdoing the previous top public house game of Shove Ha’penny.

The Claxton Mailbox: The Only Mailbox in the World Hit by a Meteorite!
The banged-up Claxton mailbox to the left just got auctioned off for nearly $83,000! Why? It’s the only mailbox in the world ever hit by a meteorite!

(Sub)Urban Abandonments: Missile Silos for Exploration, Visitation and Even for Sale
Missile silos might be the world’s most amazing abandonments. There is something about their immense scale, implicit secrecy, loaded history and and underground location that makes them an exciting target for urban exploration.
