When Good Interviews Go Bad
Let's establish one thing right out of the gate: We love the band Sigur Ros. Anyway, last Friday the band showed up promptly at 11am (EDT) and commenced to give what is possibly the worst interview in the history of electronic media. Seriously. It was that bad.

Free Plumbing for All
so then... music for free is it? well fuking great. so if you get our album for nothing or very little , does that mean i can get my boiler fixed for free... i could tell the plumber that its all for the love of sharing and its to combat the evil money grabbing corperation that is zanussi. im sure he will understand.

EMI Recorded Music still has value
The recorded music industry, while seeking to develop some of these services, has for too long been dependent on how many CDs can be sold. The industry, rather than embracing digitalisation and the opportunities it brings for promotion of product and distribution through multiple channels, has stuck its head in the sand.”

Radiohead Hides Several Pots of Gold 'In Rainbows'
With all the attention Radiohead's new In Rainbows album (released digitally today) has received due to its unique sales plan, it's possible to forget that this is an album with actual songs on it, rather than a way to turn the music industry on its ear. But it is, in fact, an album, and that album has a sound.

Bring back the A-Team
In 2006 Justin Lee Collins tried to reunite the surviving cast members of The A-Team. The original stars were Dirk Benedict, Dwight Shultz, and Mr. T, and George Peppard, who passed away in 1994 (which didn't keep Collins from trying to contact him).

“Graffiti” Art Made with Toy Train Railway Tracks!
What a strange sight: Blue lines covering everything from the floor to the walls and all over the ceiling. If you look close enough at these gigantic blue roots, you realise that it’s all made of plastic rails, more precisely, of blue plastic toy rails we used to play with as kids! And if you look at the patterns longer, you recognise model stations and mountains alongside the rail tracks – one big diorama. You’d eventually find a pinhole-sized goat on top of the model mountain!

Horiyoshi III, Legendary Irezumi Master
This is going to be a painful excursion: On the second floor above a Chinese restaurant in a quiet shopping street in Yokohama is Horiyoshi III’s studio. An artist that paints by carving into people’s skin and inserting ink - the legendary Horiyoshi III is a traditional irezumi master and folks from all over the world make an appointment half a year in advance to get one of his colourful tattoos. PingMag stepped into his studio to get to know more about this ancient Japanese artform.

Design is arrogance and Humility.
The designer says, “I know what you want better than you. Here it is.” A designer offers judgment as superior; as Henry Ford said, “If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse.”

Designing Context (Teil 1, Teil 2)
Up until the late 1800s, a painter could concern himself solely with what occurred within the borders of his canvas. In the biannual Paris Salon art exhibits, paintings were hung floor to ceiling and side by side, piled upon one another. Nobody considered the implications of hanging a painting of a virile bull directly above a painting of a reclining woman, and the artist certainly was not responsible for the overall context in which his work appeared publicly.

SimCity adds global warming to the mix
SimCity Societies -- the forthcoming installment in the classic urban simulation franchise -- will include a global warming variable. If your SimSocieties aren't carefully balanced, they'll swamp their environments with greenhouse gasses and die off. The module is produced with BP, who, I guess, are trying to figure out what a giant oil company does next.

How does it feel to die?
IS IT distressing to experience consciousness slipping away or something people can accept with equanimity? Are there any surprises in store as our existence draws to a close? These are questions that have plagued philosophers and scientists for centuries, and chances are you've pondered them too occasionally.

Brain-computer interface for Second Life
While recent developments in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology have given humans the power to mentally control computers, nobody has used the technology in conjunction with the Second Life online virtual world — until now.
A research team led by professor Jun’ichi Ushiba of the Keio University Biomedical Engineering Laboratory has developed a BCI system that lets the user walk an avatar through the streets of Second Life while relying solely on the power of thought.

(via)

U-Tsu-Shi-O-Mi virtual humanoid
U-Tsu-Shi-O-Mi is an interactive “mixed reality” humanoid robot that appears as a computer-animated character when viewed through a special head-mounted display. A virtual 3D avatar that moves in sync with the robot’s actions is mapped onto the machine’s green cloth skin (the skin functions as a green screen), and the sensor-equipped head-mounted display tracks the angle and position of the viewer’s head and constantly adjusts the angle at which the avatar is displayed. The result is an interactive virtual 3D character with a physical body that the viewer can literally reach out and touch.
